It is estimated that there are approximately 18 million leisure vessels in the world today, of which, 12 million are in the USA and 4 million in Europe. The functionality that AIS provides as standard facilitates a variety of applications, which are of significant value to boat owners.

Security: AIS can trigger an automatic alarm if the vessel is moved outside of a user defined area and alert the authorities and/or owner to its exact location.

Safety: Anyone who has operated a boat in the vicinity of busy shipping lanes will know the dangers.  An AIS transponder makes a vessel immediately visible to both parties and audible & visual alarms can be programmed by the user.

Rescue: In the event of an emergency, precious time is often lost whilst authorities try to locate the stricken vessel.  An AIS transponder enables instant and precise location to be established at all times thereby minimising the time to rescue. 

Leisure: Finding your friends amongst hundreds of boats can be a difficult and frustrating task. An AIS transponder will enable you to find the specific boat you want and go directly to it.

Communication: AIS enables you to view a specific vessel's MMSI number and then hale the vessel using your DSC radio rather than making VHF calls to an unidentified vessel.

Racing: AIS enables the monitoring and tracking of races for on shore spectators.  It provides a complete picture of the action, identity, course, position and speed of each boat in the race.
