SRT Marine Technology in the News

£1.5m deal in sea communications
Marine [and PMR] technology specialist Software Radio Technology (SRT) yesterday announced a £1.5 million deal for its equipment.

The deal is part of a larger £30m contract struck with Korean firm Unimo.

Under the deal, Unimo has begun production and deliveries of its Tetra handset, which is based on SRT's reference design.

Tetra is the radio communications network used by the police and emergency services in the UK and overseas.

Unimo is targeting its product at the local Korean and International markets.

For each handset sold, SRT will receive royalty payments which will total £1.5m.

Simon Tucker, group managing director of SRT, said: "We are delighted that our long-term partner has won this large contract.

"We had not expected such a large order so soon after the product launch.

"We believe this clearly demonstrates the lament dement that exists in the market which will become apparent as more of our Asian customers enter volume production with their handsets.

"SRT is working with Unimo on a number of other significant prospects.

"Orders of this size are not easily won and this is testament to Unimo's high-quality Tetra handset and sales efforts.

"We will continue to work closely with Unimo to secure further sales and to evolve and expand its range of Tetra products."

Last month, SRT, based in Midsomer Norton, signed a partnership agreement with an unnamed distributor of AIS Class B PCB modules for use in a range of AIS-enabled products.

It is the only device in the world that enables small boats to be indentified automatically by authorities.

The initial order is to fulfil existing orders held by the distributor and is expected to be delivered within the next six months.

SRT Marine Technology Limited is a wholly owned subsidiary of the
